The pressure for being in the public eye and the standards successful women often have to keep up with are quite tough to bare.<\/p>\n

\"\"It is no surprise, therefore, that a recurring theme of Fiona Grey’s latest EP Cult Classic<\/strong> is the vulnerability we feel when showing our true selves, as revealed by the touching song “Girls Like Me.”<\/p>\n

The simple production, featuring just a few elements to leave space to a clear, strong, and beautiful voice, is a powerful reflection of the subtle message contained in the music video: we need to find and defend simplicity.<\/p>\n

The track starts off with just a mellow synth and some ethereal strings, both embracing Fiona’s powerful vocals. Things get moving from the second verse, with some extra drums and haunting synths, while Fiona, in the video, takes her beautiful (and heavy) make up off, takes ear earrings and curlers away, and gradually shows her real appearance.<\/p>\n

Fiona has defined her music as \u201cdark pop\u201d, a mix of glamour, sensuality and deep lyrics.<\/p>\n

Cult Classic<\/strong> is indeed a journey through obsession, a celebration of nontraditional forms of love, and an inner trip towards the definition of one’s true personality and desires. It is almost a political statement, where a young artist claims her right to be herself, in a society that often feels unauthentic.<\/p>\n

To show the clash between the world we live in and the world we’d like to shape requires maturity. Therefore, this work sounds even more astonishing knowing it comes from such a young woman.<\/p>\n
